CLASS ABSTRACT
Through readings, class discussion, and short essays, each week archaeological theory, method, and data will be used to arrive at a better understanding of an issue of contemporary public concern. Issues will include biodegradation and solid waste management, "they don't make 'em as they used to," humans' 100,000 year relationship with dogs, ethnic and sectarian warfare, how human self-images have changed through time and significantly impact lives today.
Grading will be based on class participation and a substantial essay - 10 to 15 pages, pica-sized type, double spaced and well documented with references on the archaeology of a particular contemporary issue.
