Late 19th-Century Victorian Age Castle
- Built in the 1870's for the 3rd Marquess of Bute by architect William Burges as a "companion" to Bute's main home at Cardiff Castle
- Burges died in 1881 before completing the Castle so his colleagues completed his plans
- Burges meant it to resemble a medieval Welsh castle
- Conical towers, "needle-sharp" turrets, working portcullis and drawbridge
- The "fabled home of the world's wealthiest man"
- Reminiscent of the Bavarian countryside and Walt Disney's "Sleeping Beauty" and "Victorian dream of the Middle Ages"
- Interior decor: Aesop Fable walls, wood carved ceilings, bird and animal moldings around doors, carved furnishings and fireplaces
- Views of the gorge in the Taff Valley
