Ulrike's academic focus is the western Mediterranean archaic economy. She received her B.A. from Mount Holyoke College and her M.A. from the University of Heidelberg, where she first became interested in issues of cultural heritage management while working on a translation of the text of the traveling exhibit: "Provenience Unknown". This exhibit brought to public attention the widespread looting of tombs in Etruria.
