The Ship of State myth is one that can be transformed for modern times. The myth reminded me of little kids who fight for the right to be the first in line. But when the time came to lead the class they are easily disracted and have to catch up. This reminds me of the myth because it was the men on the ship who argued over the right to lead by identifying the skills necessary for the posistion. Once the true capitan was druged and thrown off the ship a salior who had once participated in argument arose as the leader of the ship. There was no way he could properly guide the ship on a safe voyage, for as Plato said, these men could not recall any of their training but were sure that their ideas were superior to any other man's.

I thought that this myth was very applicable for those men. I think it a cautionary myth that warns men against the slandering of a true leader. It also warns the masses of leaders who claim to be true leaders.

James: Any worries about this talk of a true leader? What is the necessary skill/knowledge for sailing this ship?
