I'm an assistant professor in the Department of Communication at Stanford.

I've just finished a book called From Counterculture to Cyberculture: Stewart Brand, the Whole Earth Network and the Rise of Digital Utopianism (University of Chicago Press, 2006). I'm very interested in the cultural work that has gone in to integrating computers into daily life, particularly in the United States. I'm currently working on a series of papers on Cold War informationalism outside the military and industrial precincts in which computers were developed.
