ScheduleCome and visit my Metamedia Lab in Building 500 - behind the church.
I am an archaeologist, senior founding faculty in Stanford's new Archaeology Center (Building 500), and a Professor of Classics.
A few years back at the beginning of my career I helped the development of a new interdisciplinary field - material culture studies - studying things and how people get on with them. So I have looked at ancient Greek perfume jars and prehistoric chambered tombs as well as beer cans and car design.
My Metamedia Lab specializes in questions of how we write about and otherwise represent, mediate what archaeologists (and a whole lot of others) are interested in - things, from past and present, but also sites and places.
With Jeffrey Schnapp and Henry Lowood I direct Stanford Humanities Lab.
My web sites are suitably archaeological - lots of fragmented connections and ruined layers, and they are constantly being rebuilt - but you might take a look if you want a few surprises about archaeology today -
