ScheduleResearch interests: game studies, media studies, cultural studies.
My research focuses on the cultural, social and theoretical aspects of emerging technology, with an emphasis on the interrelations of popular culture, visual culture, and the arts. Primary interest is the social and cultural impact of video games, the intersection between media and arts, and popular narratives. My interests also include horror & science fiction, electronic music, graphic novels, TV serials, Japanese animation, transmedia hybridization. I’m currently conducting research at Stanford University with the mighty Stanford Humanities Lab. I received a PhD in New Technologies of Communication at Libera Università di Lingue e Comunicazione (IULM) in Milan, Italy and a Master of Science in Mass Communications at San José State University, in San José, California. I previously received a B.A. in Philosophy and Media Studies from Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Milan, Italy.
videoludica. game culture [link]. I am the editor of videoludica.game culture, a series of books that pay a critical tribute to the most significant video games ever produced. The idea is to discusses video games from a broad academic and critical perspective, setting characteristics, themes and techniques in context and exploring the game's significance. videoludica.game culture is the follow-up to Ludologica. Videogames d'Autore [link], which debuted in 2003 and comprises 10 books.
