8. ConclusionThe number of people who has contributed to the making of this book is very substantial, I am simply not able to thank everyone by name, as I know I should. I am eternally grateful to everyone who has had an input of some kind in the research and writing process and I truly mean it. I would like however to mention here at least four people without whom this project could not have even started, let alone be completed: Peter Veth, one of the first archaeologists to encourage me in this pursuit of the dance/archaeology conjunction back in 1996, Michael Shanks for taking on this book as part of the SOFTbook@chiasme.com series, Tim Webmoor and Chris Witmore for their help in uploading the chapters and everything to do with online editing (and putting up with panicked emails when I believed all had been lost, due to the move to a new server and to spams).
I am very grateful to Roehampton University for the semester of research leave in February-August 2006 which enabled me to revise the essays and turn them into chapters and am grateful to the following bodies and institutions, whose grants and/or support have contributed to make possible the research that has stimulated this collection: Arts and Humanities Research Council, AHRC Research Centre for Crosscultural Music and Dance Performance, British Academy, British Academy Committee for Southeast Asian Studies, British Academy Society of South Asian Studies, Getty Research Program, Roehampton University School of Arts, Roehampton University Central Research Fund and the Centre for Media and Film Studies of the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London. I am also very grateful to students and colleagues for finding the time to offer their comments. I have tried to listen!
Unless otherwise stated all photos are my own.
